Cataracts are very common but not inevitable. Around 30% of people over 65 and half of those over 75 have cataracts or have had cataract surgery. Most cataracts are age-related and develop slowly, so regular eye tests are important to detect them early. If cataracts do affect your vision, surgery to replace the lens is quick, safe, and painless, usually taking just 5 to 10 minutes per eye.
