Bringing NHS Eye Care Closer to Home in Hereford
We’re proud to introduce our brand-new ophthalmic diagnostic and treatment centre in Hereford – the first of its kind in the UK, designed to make NHS eye care more accessible for the local community.
Conveniently located next to the ASDA Hereford Supercentre on Belmont Road, this custom-built unit is here to help residents access essential diagnostic services and treatment without the long waiting times or the need to travel far.
Designed Around the Community
The centre supports around 21,000 people in Herefordshire living with common eye conditions and offers high-quality treatment in as little as four weeks after referral – compared to the national NHS target of 18 weeks.
“With over a quarter of Herefordshire residents aged over 65, accessible eye care is crucial.
This mobile centre removes barriers to care by bringing services exactly where they’re needed most. Our goal is to ensure patients can receive essential treatments close to home, minimising disruption and maximising convenience.” – Jonathan Barnes
This innovative, relocatable facility spans 3,200 square feet and is fully equipped with the latest technology. It’s staffed by our expert clinical teams and designed to offer a calm, professional setting – all while aligning with NHS England’s goals of delivering care closer to home and easing hospital pressures.
A More Convenient Experience
Patients attending appointments can also benefit from our free door-to-door transport service, ensuring equitable access for all members of the community.
“We’ve decided to locate our diagnostic and treatment centre beside the ASDA superstore because it’s a convenient and recognisable spot for local people.
“Plus, many patients are brought to an appointment by a friend or relative, so they’ll be able to do a weekly shop while they’re waiting! We’re really looking forward to welcoming our very first patients and showcasing to Hereford the five-star NHS care SpaMedica is known for.” – Jonathan Barnes
What Patients Say
In a recent review of SpaMedica’s Worcester hospital, one of our patients shared:
“I am totally impressed with the efficiency of SpaMedica. From the time of arrival through to post operative care I could not fault the way in which everyone was ‘singing from the same hymn sheet’. I have now had two procedures at Worcester and each was carried out to the same high standard. I will not hesitate to recommend SpaMedica to anyone who asks my opinion.” – Peter, SpaMedica Worcester patient
