SpaMedica Coronavirus (COVID-19) Update

SpaMedica Coronavirus (COVID-19) Update

This is an unprecedented time for us all and we wish you and your families the very best of health through this challenging period. Please do not hesitate to contact us if you have any questions during this time – our contact centre and teams are available 24/7 to support our patients and community optometrists. Please see below for the latest update regarding our services:

We have received advice from Clinical Commissioning Groups, NHS Improvement and the Royal College of Ophthalmologists with regards to providing Ophthalmology services during the COVID-19 pandemic.

This advice is to only perform Day Case surgery for urgent cases where there is a risk of sight loss or risk of ocular damage.

SpaMedica will continue to treat sight threatening conditions by performing Vitreo-retinal surgery and continue to perform wet AMD treatment during this period of time until we receive any further updates from NHS England. We will also, during this time, be supporting local trusts with their capacity demands, where required.

We will communicate any further changes as they arise.

Please contact us on 0330 058 4280 if you have any queries about referrals, your treatment and current patient pathways.

NHS Guidelines Concerning COVID-19

It’s very important that we all follow the procedures set in place by the NHS to contain and limit the spread of the virus. The NHS has outlined steps to avoid catching or spreading coronavirus, please click here for guidance.

What to do if you need medical help

If you need medical help for any reason, do not visit places like a GP surgery, pharmacy or hospital.

If you have coronavirus symptoms:

  • do not go to a GP surgery, pharmacy or hospital
  • you do not need to contact 111 to tell them you’re staying at home
  • testing for coronavirus is not needed if you’re staying at home
  • wash your hands regularly for 20 seconds, each time using soap and water, or use hand sanitiser

If you feel you cannot cope with your symptoms at home, or your condition gets worse, or your symptoms do not get better after 7 days, then use the NHS 111 online coronavirus service. If you do not have internet access, call NHS 111. For a medical emergency dial 999

If you need help or advice not related to coronavirus:

  • for health information and advice, use the NHS website or ring your GP surgery website
  • for urgent medical help, use the NHS 111 online service – only call 111 if you’re unable to get help online
  • for life-threatening emergencies, call 999 for an ambulance

Please help to keep yourself and those around you safe: how to avoid catching or spreading the Coronavirus

  • DO wash your hands with soap and water often – do this for at least 20 seconds
  • DO always wash your hands when you get home or into work
  • DO cover your mouth and nose with a tissue or your sleeve (not your hands) when you cough or sneeze
  • DO use hand sanitiser gel if soap and water are not available
  • DO put used tissues in the bin straight away and wash your hands afterwards
  • DO try to avoid close contact with people who are unwell
  • DO NOT touch your eyes, nose or mouth if your hands are not clean
