The AIO Conference, which was held at Chesford Grange in Kenilworth, is a two-day networking and professional development event aimed at practising optoms and optometry students. It’s a highly-regarded and well-attended conference and one of the first face-to-face industry events we’ve attended since lockdown restrictions ended. We were honoured to be a platinum sponsor for the event, and it was wonderful to catch up with some familiar faces and meet future generations of optoms, too.
On Saturday, attendees had the opportunity to hear from some of the industry’s leading eye experts, including SpaMedica’s Medical Director, Dr Alex Silvester, who led a lecture and discussion on cataract surgery, postoperative examination and diagnosis of possible complications. Feedback from Dr Silvester’s session was very positive, with delegates remarking that his lecture was one of the best they’d ever heard!
Sunday presented a chance for optometry students to learn more about what happens during their pre-registration year and what to expect during assessments. Students attended a series of interactive lectures where they were able to diagnose different eye conditions and learn from some real-life case studies.
SpaMedica had an exhibition stand at the event and our marketing, events and promotions teams – represented by Carolyn Beadsmoore, Steven Taylor and Kevin Nunan – spoke to a number of optoms and students who were interested in finding out more about SpaMedica’s services.
It was wonderful to hear about the latest developments in the world of optometry and discuss the future of our profession with colleagues from across the country.
