Accredited Partner Programme

SpaMedica is currently the number three provider of cataract surgeries for NHS patients in the UK; performing more than 15,000 surgeries each year.

A key part of our service is being able to offer our patients the opportunity to have their cataract post-operative assessment at their referring opticians practice – this is currently provided to SpaMedica patients by more than 1,100 community optometrists across the North West and Yorkshire.

The feedback we receive from our accredited partner optometrists is overwhelmingly positive and the main benefits of becoming accredited are:

  • Short waiting times for NHS patients – about 4 weeks from referral to cataract surgery – 2 weeks to pre-op assessment
  • Dedicated experts in the SpaMedica team supporting you with cataract and cataract surgery queries
  • Patient helpline to answer patient queries directly about their referral and treatment
  • Positive and happy patients giving you increased customer loyalty
  • Additional revenue streams
    • for post-op assessment appointments

  • Day 1

    1. Visual acuity and eye check

    2. Cataract diognosis and patient suitable for surgery

    3. Referral to SpaMedica

  • Day 15

    4. Pre-op appointment and assessment

    Day 29

    5. Cataract surgery - 1st eye*

    *For single eye referral, go straight from step 5 to 8 - 28 Days inbetween.

  • Day 43

    6. Post-op assessment - 1st eye visual acuity and eye check

  • Day 57

    7. Cataract surgery - 2nd eye

  • Day 85

    8. Post-op assessment - visual acuity and check for both eyes

    9. Prescription spectacles - if required

    10. Follow up and annual check

How we will work with you

A major benefit of the scheme is the communication provided by SpaMedica from referral through to the post-op assessment, to ensure patient information and outcomes are shared and up-to-date:

  • Letter/email sent to optometrist to confirm patient pre-op appointment
  • Letter/email sent to optometrist with pre-assessment details and to confirm patient/surgery treatment date
  • Letter/email following surgery for optometrist to book post-op assessment with patient

In addition, SpaMedica has developed two quarterly reports for our accredited optometrists; the first showing an overview of outcomes and the second showing patient feedback on your services.
