Cataract Awareness Month

1st June - 30th June

We’re delighted to have you here!

Throughout June, SpaMedica invite you to join us on a journey of education and awareness around one of the most common eye conditions in people aged 60 and over. We want as many people as possible to know about cataracts and the impact they can have on your life, so throughout the month be sure to pop back here to see the things we have been up to in raising the profile around cataract awareness and patient choice.

Check out our Facebook page for a fun cataract quiz and giveaway at the end of the month.

Knowing the early signs and symptoms of cataracts could save your sight. Our Director of Clinical Outpatients, Professor Christine Purslow, joins us to introduce cataracts, explains their impact on daily life, and discusses the common symptoms to be aware of for early detection. If you are experiencing problems with your vision, it’s important to visit your local optician or GP. A thorough eye examination can uncover signs of various conditions, such as cataracts, which may require treatment or further assessment.

YOUR SURGERY, YOUR CHOICE

Remember: you ALWAYS have the right to choice in your healthcare journey. The decision of where you choose to receive your cataract surgery is completely yours.

If you are considering cataract surgery and are comparing treatment options, it can be helpful to read other patients feedback and find out more about your local SpaMedica hospital. If SpaMedica feels like the right choice for you, you can find more information about how to get a referral here.

Choosing a surgery provider should be easy and we want to help you make informed decisions about your eye health. If you have any concerns or questions, please don’t hesitate to contact your local optician.

AFTER YOUR DIAGNOSIS

If your local optician or GP diagnoses you with cataracts and you choose to have your surgery with us at SpaMedica, you will have up to 3 appointments in one of our outpatient hospitals where free parking* and free transport is available.

The first appointment with us is a pre-assessment. Our National Lead Optometrist, Sarah Hardy, shares what you can expect during your pre-assessment appointment with us:

“Before we arrange your surgery, we will carry out a comprehensive pre-assessment in a SpaMedica hospital of your choice. Upon arrival, a member of our friendly team will show you to a waiting room, where you can take a moment to relax with complimentary tea and biscuits.”

“During the pre- assessment, we’ll perform vision tests, scans of the eye, and run diagnostics to ensure we have all the necessary information to ultimately determine if cataract surgery is the best option for you.”

“Once complete, we’ll schedule a surgery date for you to return to our hospital where you will be in the safe hands of our first- class surgeons for your treatment.”

MEET OUR CHIEF MEDICAL OFFICER

Our Chief Medical Officer, Dr Alex Silvester, is here to discuss what you can expect before, during and after the procedure.
We know many patients experience some pre-surgery nerves which is completely natural, but we hope Dr Alex can debunk some of the myths and put your mind at ease if you’re due to have surgery soon!

PATIENT TESTIMONIALS

We’re happy if you’re happy. Let us share some of our patient stories and how we can get you back to doing the things you love.

* Free parking is not available at our Manchester hospital.
