BOTOX®

The active component of BOTOX® is Botulinum toxin. It induces muscle relaxation via the toxins ability to block nerve transmission at the nerve-muscle junction. Medical application for BOTOX® were first discovered by an Ophthalmologist and the number of medical indications for its use have grown to include blepharospasm, diplopia, migraine, spasticity, dystonia and hyperhidrosis.

At spaMedica we use BOTOX® to treat blepharospasm, migraine and hyperhidrosis. VISTABEL® is the brand name of the same medication that is licensed for cosmetic use.

We use VISTABEL® to treat the following types of wrinikles:

  • Crows feet - wrinkles around the eyes
  • Forehead wrinkles - lines of the forehead and furrows between the eye brows
  • Bunny lines - wrinkles at the bridge of the noe
  • Upper & lower lip wrinkles - fine lines around the lips
  • Marionette lines - turned down lines at the corners of the lips
  • Puckered chin - dimpling of the chin
  • Platysmal bands - visible vertical bands of muscle in the neck

We also use VISTABEL® for more advanced cosmetics treatments:

  • Gummy smile - allows the upper lip to take a more natural position exposing only the teeth rather than the upper gums
  • Brow lift - rejuvenates the eyes by lifting the brows to a more youthful, natural and elevated position
  • Nasal flare - reduces the size of the nostril opening
  • Nasal contouring - elevates the tip of the nose to give a rejuvenated more youthful appearance

At spaMedica we also offer other BOTOX® treatments:

  • Hyperhydrosis - excess sweating
  • Migraine - headaches that have been resistant to other forms of treatment may respond to BOTOX® injections
  • Blepharospasm - involuntary lid twitching movements often respond well to BOTOX® injections

FAQs

Will my facial expressions continue to look natural?
Although the results are visible, a treatment with BOTOX®Cosmetic will not radically change your facial appearance or make you look as if you "had work done." The muscle activity that causes frown lines between the brows is simply reduced, so you can still frown or look surprised without the wrinkles and creases between your brows.

How long does BOTOX® treatment take?
The actual treatment takes 5 - 10 minutes depending on the number of areas being treated.

What should I tell my doctor before using BOTOX® ?
Only your doctor can decide if BOTOX® Cosmetic is right for you. Before starting treatment, tell your doctor if you:

  • have any diseases that affect your nerves and muscles. These diseases may increase your chance of side effects with BOTOX® Cosmetic treatment.

  • are breastfeeding

  • are planning to become pregnant soon.

Is BOTOX® right for you?
If doing all you can to look your best is important to you, BOTOX® may be for you. If reducing those tough lines between your brows would make you feel more approachable, BOTOX® may be for you. Thousands of appearance-conscious women and men have already discovered the benefits of BOTOX®. Not just models and movie stars, but ordinary people—teachers, mothers, and business people from all walks of life.

Who should administer BOTOX®?
Best results with BOTOX® are obtained when treatment is performed by a suitably qualified and experienced Doctor. Using BOTOX® for cosmetic use is an art that requires an accurate understanding of facial anatomy, good injection technique, an understanding of how to avoid complications and how to deal with them should they occur and clean premises combined with sterile injection technique to ensure infections do not occur. At spaMedica only a Consultant Surgeon will treat you with BOTOX®.

Who is a good candidate for BOTOX®?
Any woman or man who is concerned about the appearance of their frown lines can consider BOTOX®. Treatment can be used by people from ages 18 to 65. Our physicians can help you decide if BOTOX® is right for you.

Can BOTOX® be used to prevent the onset of wrinkles?
Yes. It is becoming increasingly popular for BOTOX® to be used by younger clients seeking to prevent the onset of facial wrinkles. By reducing the repeated folding of skin in wrinkle prone areas, the onset of wrinkles can be delayed allowing a prolonged youthful appearance.

Are BOTOX® Cosmetic treatments painful?
Discomfort is minimal and brief. Your physician may choose to use a local anesthetic cream or ice to minimize this. Once the injection is complete, there is usually no discomfort.
